The Location
The simulated projection of the films takes place in a mysterious abandoned building on the outskirts of Carbondale, Illinois. It has been known by many names including; Sunset Haven, Insane Asylum, Vivarium Annex and Haunted House. Read more about the folklore of this building here.
Purpose of the Installation
The meaning of transtao is to go beyond the path. The path has been laid before us by the media. Travel beyond the path altogether and experience life first hand. As you search around the building throughout all the rooms you may discover something about the films. If you relate this discovery to your internal realm you will begin to journey beyond the path. Color, placement, duration, sound and images work together to create a media message that is intended to be revealing of the inner realm and connect you conscsiously to your psyche. Each viewing will be different. You are encouraged to revisit the site and notice new things about the rooms and films. It is important to note that this website will not change; therefore, you are experiencing transient transformation (a change within you).
